The Names and Attributes of Allah are described by Allah himself in the holy Quran. It is a firm belief of Muslims that if they study these names, their relationship with God strengthens in the most effective ways. Each name of God has significant meaning and it provides nourishment to the soul and minds.
“The most beautiful names belong to Allah: so call on Him by them.” (Quran, 7:180)
God has told Muslims a good way to ask for their supplications by the most appropriate names of Allah. These specific names are meant for each need and want of human beings, and that they relate to what they are asking for. For example, if one is seeking forgiveness from God for a sin they have committed, they would call upon Him by His name “Al-Ghaffar,” meaning “The Ever-Forgiving.” Similarly, if a Muslims wants some peace in their lives, then the name of God that relieves them from the tension is “As-Salaam,” meaning “The Ultimate Source of Peace.”
Allah’s Names and Their Translation
You can find the table below which provides a good approximate translation of Allah’s names and their meanings. His names apply in all areas of our lives to straighten out the mess in our lives, let us explore how Allah’s names work in a Muslim’s life.
God’s Names Relating to Mercy
The specific names of Allah which related to the special mercy and forgiveness of God are Ar-Rahman and Ar-Rahim. These two names frequently occur together in the Qur’an. These names describe the elements of sympathy, kindness, gentleness, compassion, and love in the nature of Allah. These attributes of Allah are a blessing for human beings, Allah, therefore, manifests these qualities to a perfect level with His Creation. His mercy is endless and flooding for his beings.
Allah is hundred times more merciful than we witness him in this universe. We cannot imagine a life without the mercy of Allah. We are not able to understand or comprehend the true limits of his power and mercy. The other 99 parts are for the Day of Judgment and the Hereafter. God’s mercy is bigger than his anger and is a refuge from his rage and wrath as well.
“Say: O my servants who have acted extravagantly against their own souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah; surely Allah forgives the faults altogether; surely He is the Forgiving the Merciful” (Quran, 39:53).
Allah’s name “Al-Ghaffar,” meaning “The Ever Forgiving,” is also related to his unlimited mercy. One should sincerely repent their sins and ask for his mercy, God will forgive all the sins and promise to purify your soul.
People will enter Paradise by the Mercy of God
The mercy of God is necessary to enter a human being into the paradise. No man can alone enter paradise or heaven if he or she is not going to experience the mercy of God in this life and on the day of judgment. Deeds are however a powerful tool to seek his forgiveness
Some more names of Allah are Al-Karim (the Generous), Al-Halim (the Forbearing), Al-Barr (the Generous), Al-Jawad (the Bestower of Good), Ar-Rauf (the Kind) and Al-Wahhab (the Bestower).
