Clothing in Islam. Islamic clothing for women is an issue that is very hot these days as the invasion of non-Muslim dresses and fashion is currently dominating the markets and attracting women towards them. The current clothing trends from the modern civilized European and American world are hugely influencing the Muslim women and girls these days. Despite the true, simple and powerful clothing instructions of Islam regarding women’s clothing, the teenage girls and females are heavily following the western fashion that does not adhere to the limits of Islam. According to Islam, the women should not reveal her body parts to anyone, especially when they go out in public and for work or education. There are certain limits for women which they must follow to avoid breaking the rules of Quran and Shariyah regarding getting dressed.
Modesty is the most important part of faith in Islam; it does not like the extraordinary fashion trends to alter the natural appearance and looks of a female. The current change in the dressing behavior is influenced due to the bombardment of western media and commercialism. As the new brands use gimmickry to sell their product to women of all ages and convince them they cannot survive without their products. The verse of Quran tells the whole story how private the body parts of a woman are and how men should refrain from starting at them freely.
“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and to be mindful of their chastity….And tell the believing women to (also) lower their gaze, avoiding its concentration of and to be mindful of their chastity, and not to display the charms of their bodies in public beyond what may (decently) be apparent thereof… (Surah 24, verse 29-31
In Islam, a woman’s dress is more important for her than anything. Covering her body parts so that they do not reveal themselves is the first duty of an Islamic woman. The dress should not only cover the entire body parts including the private parts of women, but also it should not be revealing flashy to attract men towards her. Modesty is the first principle of Islam regarding dressing. Another verse of Quran reveals that:
O Prophet! Tell your wives and daughters and the believing women that they should draw over themselves their jilbab (outer garments) (when in public); this will be more conducive to their being recognized (as decent women) and not harassed. But God is indeed oft-forgiving, most merciful. (33:59)
O Children of Adam! Wear your beautiful apparel (zeenah) at every time and place of prayer…(7:31)
Clothing in Islam. There are more verses that reveal the importance of clothing modestly and properly. Lowering the gaze and guarding her body parts is the foremost priority for a woman so they can build respectful relationships with men. The way women dress builds their public image, a decent looking Muslim woman can always be God’s favorite. Those who reveal their body parts and wear dresses that do not cover their limbs, belly, chest and head are not dear to God, they may see hell as the punishment for their inappropriate dressing.
