The study of stages of revelation of Quran is the most important knowledge about the Quranic history. This is mostly referred to as the Tanzeel of Quran. The Quran was sent down to earth from the heavens, and it was not sent down in one stage or event. There are various stages of sending the Quran down to earth. This helps the Muslims to understand the different chapters of Quran better.

Quran is the foundation of Islam and the word of Allah. feel’ is derived from the Arabic root ‘Nuzool’, which means the descent or the movement from a high place down to a lower one. The Quran was brought down to earth by the most powerful angel of God, Jibreel (Gabriel) who repeatedly came down to earth and revealed many chapters of Quran to prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.

Allah Almighty Says about the Holy Quran (what means): “ (It is) a Quran which We have divided (into parts from time to time), in order that thou (O Muhammad) might recite it to people at intervals: We have revealed it by stages (in 23 years).” [Quran 17:106]

Stage One:

In the first stage, Quran was brought by Jibreel from the Preserved Tablet (in the Seventh Heaven) down to the First Heaven (sky) and placed in the ‘Place of Power or Honor

e have indeed sent down this during the Night of Power.” [Quran 97:1].

Stage Two:

The second stage of revelation was about 23 years long, as long as prophet Muhammad lived after he was chosen prophet at the age of 40. The prophet Muhammad was the first person who had memorized the verses of Quran by himself, The Quran is divided into 114 ‘Surahs’ (Chapters) of unequal length.

A Quran which We have given seriatim (separated out) in order that you may recite it to the people at intervals and We have caused it to come down successively (by stages).” [Quran 17:106]

But verse 6:7 observes (what means): “If We had sent unto you (O Muhammad) a written (message) on parchment, so that they could touch it with their hands, the unbelievers would have been sure to say: “This is nothing but obvious magic.’” [Quran 6:7]

Almighty Allah Says (what means): “Why has the Quran not been vouchsafed to him (Muhammad) in one single whole?” [Quran 25:32]

The Preservation of Quran

Stages of revelation of Quran form this verses above, it is clear that Quran has been revealed by Allah in stages and various steps. The unbelievers were made clear by Allah in these verses that Allah has taken responsibility to protect the Quran himself til the end of this world. This divine scripture has never been changed or altered by anyone for a period of 1400 years and will still remain authentic and original till the end of time. The Quran will be preserved in original form till eternity.That is why Quran is not like the other divine scripture like Bible and Trait or Zaboor, which are not found in their original forms anymore. There are no suspicions in Quran, it is available worldwide for every human being whether Muslim or not so they can seek the knowledge of Allah and his favorite religion Islam through Quran.
