Modern science has discovered the facts about the earth’s atmosphere. The facts have already been revealed in the sacred book of Holy Quran about 1400 years ago. In this piece of content we will discuss these facts in the light of both Holy Quran and Science.

The earth atmosphere in the Light Of Holy Quran And Science:

In Quran, it is clearly mentioned that Allah has made the sky a ceiling for those who reside on the planet earth.

“We made the sky a preserved and protected roof, yet still they turn away from Our signs.” [21:32]

“[He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling…” [Quran 2:22]

The atmosphere refers to the air surrounding all around the earth i.e. right from the ground to the edge from where the space starts. The earth’s atmosphere is reported to be consisted of seven layers. The layers are reported to differ from each other due to different densities they posses.

Many scientists think that the seven layers of the earth’s atmosphere are linked to the seven skies which have been discussed in the Holy Quran. The seven layers have been named as:

Troposphere.
Tropopause.
Stratosphere.
Ozone Layer.
Mesosphere.
Tonosphere (Aurora).
Exosphere.

These verses inform us about the seven layers of the earth’s atmosphere.

Do you not see how He created seven heavens in layers? (Qur’an, 71:15)

He Who created the seven heavens in layers… (Qur’an, 67:3)

Allah (SWT) said: “And we adorned the nearest (lowest) heaven with lamps to be as an adornment as well as to guard. Such is the Decree of Him, the All Mighty, the All- Knower” [Fussilat: 12].

Lamps here refer to stars which are located outside the earth’s atmosphere or outside our solar system.

Allah Almighty says: “we adorned the nearest (lowest) heaven with lamps to be as an adornment” (Sûrat Al-Mulk -verse5 ).

According to this verse, the first sky has been decorated with billions of stars and galaxies. Research reveals that the earth’s atmospheric layers, our solar system and all the galaxies are located in the first sky. However, the second sky, the third, the forth, the fifth, the sixth and the seventh skies have neither been seen nor revealed yet.
