Food and Sustenance is From Allah. Consider the following verse of Quran.
“There is no moving creature on earth but its sustenance depends on God: He knows the time and place of its definite abode and its
Temporary deposit: All is in a clear Record”……… Qur’an, Hud, 11: 6
The Quran has made it very clear that God is the only provider for all the human beings and creatures. No one has the power to provide and sustain human beings unless God does not want them to remain alive. More verses prove this point in Islam:
“And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance. And We have provided therein means of subsistence, for you and for those for whose sustenance you are not responsible.” [Hijr 15:19-20]
“And there is not a thing but its (sources and) treasures (inexhaustible) are with Us; but We only send down thereof in due and ascertainable measures.” [Hijr 15:21]
A wise man said, the more time you must spend on seeking food and sustenance the less time you have to practice being human. The less time you have to develop your mind.
“And Allah has brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you know nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts that you might give thanks (to Allah).” (16:78)
Allah(SWT) is the creator who has bestowed his creatures with blessings before they were born. In their mother’s womb, Allah had provided food and constituent factors of growth to the human child. Then after the child comes into this world, Allah devote his parents towards taking care of his needs and provide them with means of survival and food. People who fail to acknowledge the favor of Allah are ones who are ungreatful for his blessings. To provide you is entirely in the hands of Allah who has endowed you with all these blessings for nothing in return.
“…We ask not of you a provision (i.e. to give Us something: money, etc.); We provide for you. And the good end (i.e. Paradise) is for the Muttaqûn (pious and righteous persons).” (20:132)
The Bestower of Provision , Allah(SWT), the Almighty says:
“Surely Allah is the Bestower of provision, Lord of Power, the Almighty”.
Noble Qur’an (52:58)
All CreaturHave Basic Needs
All not only provide the basic needs of people living on earth but also to all his creatures like birds, fish, animals, insects and reptiles. They all need air and water to survive. But Allah has also made it mandatory for all the creatures to work for them.
Allah(SWT), the Most High says:
“And He set on the earth firm mountains standing above its surface, and He blessed the earth and measured therein nourishment for all things, in four periods: in accordance with the needs of the seekers”. Noble Qur’an (41:10)
Therefore according to the concept of Islam, the people are the seekers of sustenance on earth. In an organized society, they seek for money to by working in fields such as: agriculture, industry, cattle-rearing, commerce etc. Then they buy food like vegetables, grain, fruit, meat, fish, poultry, milk eggs or dairy products to keep them alive and healthy.
But whenever a farmer grow crops in his fields and all the animals are slaughtered for the consuption of food for humans, Allah makes it happens and created these animals for humans to take benefit from them. Only our Creator is the Maker of provisions for us on this earth.
The creator Allah is dominant and he is the only one decides the time of our death, therefore it is a faith of Muslims that no soul shall die until it has exhausted all its prescribed provision and life.
Allah Ta’ala says:
” Kill not your children for fear of want: we shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you: verily the killing of them is a great sin” [Qur’an, 17:31]
