Islam is the modern alternative. The Islamic ways of life is the most balanced way of life, some people think that Islam offers only a restrictive way of life that does not allow any room for freedom and fun. This is not true as Allah almighty created all the human beings with Fitrah’ (a natural state/desire) e.g. a desire for good food and drink, to have a home, desired for a loving life partner and a desire to be protected. The Fitrah is all about the practical demonstration of how to balance all these natural human desires.
Islam does not put any extra burdens on anyone, neither it forces anyone to follow Islam and become a Muslim until they really feel deep within their heart and recognize the true path.
What Islam is Really Against ?
Islam is not against the right of living a free respectable life in any society in the world, it offers a divine way to control the limitless desires and no control over the emotions related to achieving those desires. Islam tells people to control their unnecessary desires and stay within the limits for not hurting the feelings of others.
Limited Wisdom
The human beings are not created with a perfect wisdom, therefore sometimes they try too hard but never attain the perfect way of life by their own thinking. The most wise personality in the universe is Allah and he sent Quran to provide us all the wisdom along with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.He has compiled a way of life for us in the form of Islam which is beneficial for the mankind.
“These are the limits (set) by Allaah, so do not approach them”
(Surah al-Baqarah 2:187)
“These are the limits set by Allaah, so do not transgress them”
(Surah al-Baqarah 2:229)
This is why Islam does not allow celibacy, the illegal desired of building physical relationships with other people and fasting for the entire year is not allowed. They are only told to fast for 30 days in a year. The ways of humans in the modern era of technology has diminished the harmony and perfect balance out of their lives. As the prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to say:
“I will not marry women”; someone else said: “I will not eat meat”; and someone else said: “I will not lie down in bed”. (On hearing this): The Prophet (SAW) praised Allaah, and glorified Him and said: “what has happened to these people that they say so and so, whereas I observe prayer and I sleep too. I observe fast and I break my fast; I marry women also. And he who turns away from my Sunnah ( i.e., my example or lifestyle), he has no relation with me” [Narrated in Saheeh Muslim vol. 2. p703. no. 32361].
There is no room for lust in Islam, it is an evil that is being promoted by the media in the contemporary civilization. Islam has limited the amount of worldly pleasures because they will take us away from the thoughts of Allah and the eternal life hereafter.
“Beautified for men is the love of things they desire: Women, Children, much of gold and silver (wealth), branded beautiful horses, cattle and well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world’s life, but Allaah has the excellent return ( Paradise)”
(Surah Aali-Imraan 3:141)
