Parents are supposed to raise kids, that is a tough job in life. It involves listening to your kids and answer their questions and demands according to the limits and teachings of religion. Listening to your kids is an important skill, the children are sensitive creatures and ignoring them may result in a negative way. The negative and positive personality of kids develops inside their house when they see and follow the habits and values of their parents.
What Parents Must Not do
Some parents hit children, they call them with bad names and say things like ‘you are stupid’, ‘you are foolish’, ‘you are grounded’ ‘you are retarded’, etc when kids ask questions.. These words have negative impact on the personality of your child, the child does not understand the true meaning of life and becomes twisted from inside. This develops mental problems, therefore Islam tells you to listen to and treat your kids with affection and give them respect.
What Parents Should Do
When you listen to your kids, you are respected by them and they are more drawn towards you. They can also listen to you in the same way. The children understand the language of affection, their feelings become more positive when you encourage your child to talk about his feelings. They will be better able to deal with the life and remain confident in every situation.
When you get angry of frustered like all parents do sometime, you may say angry words to kids. The kids may feel it deeply even if you may not mean it. Phrases like ‘You stupid idiot,’ ‘That’s a dumb question,’ or ‘Don’t bother me’ does not make your child wanted and damage their personality.
Become a Role Model like Prophet Muhamad (Peace be upon him)
Parents are the best role models for the kids in addition to teachers. The kids learn by seeing you as role model in the house, therefore lecturing your kid is not a good way to get them to listen to you effectively. The best example of a role model for kids is Prophet Muhammad who was the most affectionate person and extremely kind to kids.
Talk in Friendly Manner
Listening to your kids. In Islam, the rights of children and kids are defined very clearly. The daughters and boys are to be treated fairly and no kid should be given preference over another. When you treat boy and girls like a friend, the time spent with them will be worth remembering. This create nice memories for the kids and they remember the affection of their parents even after their death. Parents who pressurize their kids and advise them to do wrong things end up spoling their kids and they become a menace to the society.
