Medical treatment and Islamic perspective. All the diseases have a treatment, the medical science has reached far enough to treat the deadliest diseases on planet. Humans are also encouraged to seek the right treatment for the specific disease, for example, honey is a natural gift that is considered as the most powerful medicine for common and serious illnesses. Quran says that Allah is the provider of cure.
Cure is from Allah
According to the Islamic concept, the cure is given only by Allah. The disease and pain is only to wash away the sins of man, humans can try to cure their disease but it is Allah who cures them. But that does not mean that humans should not take any action to cure the disease and leave this entirely on Allah. Sometimes, the medical science and doctors cannot cure a disease, then only a divine intervention can do the miracle for humans.
Preventive medicine (tibb wiqa’i) is Necessary
Quran tells us to take preventative measures to guard us against the hellfire. Disease could be prevented before occurrence or could be treated after occurrence. Prevention does not mean that we can actually get rid of the disease forever in the future, but only Allah knows for sure whether the diseases will occur or not. The medical science can predict a disease through various tests and equipment and reduce the risk factor.
For example if someone quits smoking, they can take a good measure against cancer of lungs and heart attack. This can limit the impact of disease and prevention is necessary in Islam and medical science for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The best thing humans can do is to have strong will power to prevent and fight the various life threatning diseases. Some activities to boost the health level is physical exercise, rest and recreation, diet, dhikr llah, happy marriage and good family life.
Curative medicine (tibb ‘ilaji)
The search for every cure is the duty of humans. Helping or assisting the body to fight the disease is the best approach. Many physicians forget the tremendous potential that the body has to take care of itself and cure disease with the help of Allah. No doubt medical treatment supports body to heal naturally a bit early with medicine, it can enhance the performance of immune system and help repair the damage soon. But the ultimate cure is with the will of God.
The first hospital in Europe was Hopital de Dieu opened in Paris in 600 AD. There were some Muslim hospitals before that but they were only the places where people used to die instead of getting healed. The medical technology has tremendously improved this situation, now the people go to hospital and return home healthy.
Spiritual Modality of Treatment
According to Islamic perspective, the dua (prayers for healing) and Quranic verses play an important roles in the overall treatment and cure of disease. Asking protection from Allah upon recitation of Quranic verses increase the probability of healing and also strengthens the spiritual side of Muslims during the time of disease. Person who spiritually deals with disease also gains psychological benefits and the happiness of Allah. A non-believer on the other hand may feel a lot more pain with the same injury.
Physical modality of Treatment
The things that play an important role in the cure of disease are diet, natural agents (chemical, animal and plant products), manufactured chemical agents, surgery (jiraha), and physical treatment e.g. heat. These physical approches can limit the level of disease.
HALAL AND HARAM THERAPEUTICS
Medical treatment and Islamic perspective. Not all medicine are good, some are bad and is forbidden in Islam. They cause more harm to the health than cure. The haram material used in making the medicine is not allowed in Islam in normal conditions, except special circumstances,, haram material is not allowed. When cure becomes worse than disease, it is not allowed in Islam. The medicines also have some side effects, which should be kept in mind before using the medicine.
