Righteous Caliphs

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) died in 632, when a great portion of Arabia had been converted to Islam. The death of Muhammad (SAW) confronted the infant Muslim community with something like constitutional crises. The Prophet had left no provision for succession, nor had he even created a council on the lines of the tribal Majlis which might have exercised authority during the crucial transitional period. The Holy Quran describes the position of the sovereign. The authority of the holy Prophet is supreme in all those matters as he was the head of the Islamic state. He was the sole processor of the both spiritual and secular authority and political and judicial powers. He was the Supreme Commander of all the army and forces.

There are Four Righteous Caliphs after the Death of the Holy Prophet (SAW), the first one was the Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) and after Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar (R.A) was appointed as Caliph and the third one was the Hazrat Usman (R.A) and the fourth one was Hazrat ALI (R.A).

Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) chosen as the first khalifa. The Holy prophet did not nominate his successor and left the choice of his deputy or viceroy to his followers. Hazrat Abu Bakr was chosen by the mutual discussion of the Muhajirin and Ansar. In his time Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) faced many problems, after the death of the Holy Prophet the Arabs were on all sides rising in rebellion. He fought many battles for Islam, some scholar called him the era of the Conquest.

Hazrat Umar (R.A) was the second righteous caliphs of Islam, Hazrat Umar belonged to “Adi” family of Quraysh tribe. He was one of the most notable figures in Islam, he was famed for his strong will and impetuous and unambiguous character. Before he became Caliph, he was known to be uncompromising and even violent. When the responsibility of the caliphate was given to him, he became more even-tempered, but still forceful. Hazrat Umar (R.A) was not muslim before islam, he converted to islam with the source of his sister. Hazrat Umar (R.A) got the title of “AL-FAROOQ”, he strengthened Islam. The Holy prophet led his first public Salat in the history of islam and for this courageous and bold action of Hazrat Umar (R.A), the holy Prophet gave him the title of “AL-FAROOQ” i.e the one who make a distinction between the “Right “and “Wrong”.

Hazrat Usman (R.A) belonged to a noble family of Quraysh. His linage joins with that of the Holy Prophet in the Fifth generation. Hazrat Usman (R.A) accepted islam when Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) preached to him. Hazrat Usman (R.A) got the title of “Zhun-Nurain”, after the death of the first daughter of the Holy Prophet (SAW), Hazrat Usman get married to the second one “Umme kulsoom” with him and he was given the title of ‘Zhun Nurain’. He was very prominent muslim to serve islam by all means. He participated in almost all the battles with the non-believers in which Holy Prophet (SAW) had also taken part, except “Badar”. He provided good services before caliphate as well.

Hazrat Ali (R.A) excelled in both sword and pen. A scholar Hazrat Ali (R.A) was the most accomplished man of the time. His sayings are proverbial in the profundity of thought and wisdom. He was known as the gate of knowledge because of his learning, wisdom and intelligence. His advice was much valued by caliph Hazrat Abu bakr and Hazrat Umar and he occupied the position of a prime counsellor in their reign. He became the first youth to accept Islam, he invited all his family member to a feast and announced his mission before them.
